The Government of India has appointed Amit Kumar, an officer of the 2014 batch of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Steel. His appointment is for a tenure of four years, effective from the date he assumes charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Kumar’s selection comes as part of the Central Staffing Scheme, which places competent officers from various services in key administrative roles across ministries. During his tenure, he is expected to contribute to policy formulation, sectoral coordination, and initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s steel industry, a critical sector for infrastructure and economic growth.
Amit Kumar brings with him valuable administrative experience from previous positions in the defence accounts system, where he has handled financial management, procurement oversight, and institutional administration.
