The Supreme Court of India has urged senior Karnataka cadre officers, IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri and IPS officer D Roopa Moudgil, to resolve their long-running dispute through mediation rather than continuing prolonged litigation.
During a hearing on June 12, 2026, the apex court expressed concern over the ongoing feud between the two officers and observed that the legal battle could adversely affect both their professional careers. The court emphasized the need for an amicable resolution and encouraged both parties to explore a settlement.
The case stems from a petition filed by Rohini Sindhuri challenging a Karnataka High Court order that upheld a trial court’s decision to take cognisance of a defamation complaint filed by D Roopa Moudgil.
Considering the nature of the dispute and the senior positions held by both officers, the Supreme Court appointed former Supreme Court judge Justice Kurian Joseph as a mediator to facilitate discussions and explore the possibility of a mutually acceptable settlement.
Background of the Dispute
The controversy dates back to February 2023, when Rohini Sindhuri alleged that D Roopa Moudgil had made several accusations against her through Facebook posts. According to the allegations, Moudgil claimed that Sindhuri had shared her private photographs with fellow IAS officers.
The allegations triggered a highly publicized public exchange between the two officers, drawing widespread media attention and sparking debate within administrative circles. As the dispute intensified, the Karnataka government eventually transferred both officers from their respective positions.
The Supreme Court’s intervention is being viewed as a significant step toward ending one of the most talked-about bureaucratic disputes in recent years. Attention is now focused on the mediation process and whether both officers will be able to reach a settlement and bring the matter to a close.
